Accessibility Statement

GovGrids builds software for US cities, towns, counties, and special districts, which means the people using our platform include municipal staff of every role and residents of every ability. We want both groups to be able to submit requests, review records, and complete their work without unnecessary barriers, and accessibility is a standard we design toward across every module of the platform.

Our Commitment

GovGrids designs toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as the standard for our public-facing website and the GovGrids application. We recognize that Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act is directly relevant to the US government agencies and municipal offices we serve, and we treat conformance with recognized accessibility standards as a priority for a platform built specifically for the public sector. This statement describes our current approach and is a starting point for an ongoing effort rather than a claim that every page and feature has been independently audited.

Measures We Take

Across our website and application, we design with accessibility in mind, including:

  • Semantic markup. We structure pages using headings, landmarks, and native HTML elements so that assistive technologies such as screen readers can interpret content and navigation correctly.
  • Keyboard navigation. We design interactive elements, forms, and workflows with the intent that they can be operated using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse or touch input.
  • Contrast-aware theming. GovGrids supports both light and dark themes, and we design our color choices with text contrast in mind so that content remains readable across lighting conditions and visual preferences.
  • Descriptive labeling. We aim to give form fields, buttons, and interactive controls clear labels and descriptive text rather than relying on visual context alone.
  • Responsive design. Our website and application are built to adapt across desktop, tablet, and mobile screens, including our native iOS and Android apps, so residents and staff can use GovGrids on the device that works best for them.

Accessibility in Product Decisions

When our product and engineering teams design a new module or revise an existing workflow, accessibility is one of the factors weighed alongside functionality and usability, not treated as a separate step handled at the end. This includes considering how a city clerk using a screen reader would complete a permit review, how a resident using only a keyboard would submit a service request, and how someone with low vision would read a status update in either our light or dark theme. We do not consider a feature finished simply because it looks correct visually; it also needs to hold up for people navigating the platform in different ways.

Known Limitations

Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we know that not every page, workflow, or third-party integration available through GovGrids has reached the same level of accessibility maturity. As we continue to develop new modules and features, we are working to identify and correct accessibility gaps as they are found, and we welcome feedback that helps us prioritize that work.
